This day, I bought my Alpha 700 & Vertical Grip($2199+405). The V-Grip got 10% off when purchase with the body. Wasn't temped to Alpha 700 because the price is ridiculous compare with other countries(Hong Kong is selling about $1600). Prior to buying it, I was shooting the Sony Expo, where the Sony Girls showcasing Sony products, with my trusty KM 5D, Tamron 17-50mm and my new Metz 48-AF Flash. I was thinking of why should I upgrade to Alpha 700 when my KM 5D had done miracles in difficult condition(fast action sport in hall, IVP 2008). It is all about the man behind the camera. I must admit that it hard work using KM 5D to shoot sport, almost Manual and Pre focus all the way. I believe with proper techniques, not matter what condition, you are still able to get good photos.
As I was shooting, my KM 5D struggles with focusing, which I had learned to live with it. In the process, I did miss as quite a number of shoots. Then another thing started to bother me. The KM 5D didn't come with V-Grip option, a feature I really miss when I am shooting events.
After the shoot, I was hanging around Alpha booth, chatting with the staffs, talk them into letting me to try the lens in the locked cabinet. I did manage to try 70-200G, CZ85 ,and 35G. Quite a good feeling as I know that I may not able to purchase them anytime soon, or even worse, if the lens go out of production. The staffs start to psycho me to but the Alpha 700, which eventually I give in, but on the condition if the deal is good. I went to the counter, the 1st thing the guy tell me is that the body-only set is the last. He offered extra battery, 4gb ms-pro and 10% of accessories. Sound like a deal, so went ahead to buy it.
*Update* Of course, no regret for buy expensive A700, had been enjoying the extra megapixels for cropping and the very fast focusing which I need.
